听力原文:M: Excuse me, may I have some information about the reception party that you're advertising outside. It's for new students, isn't that right?
W: That's right and what would you like to know about it?
M: Well, I'm not really sure what the purpose of the event is.
W: The party will provide students with a chance to get to know each other, and a chance for students who have successfully been through university to pass on some valuable advice.
M: Who's organizing the event? Is it the faculty or...
W: Actually, it is the Alumni Association that's organizing this event. So, it's strictly a student to student event.
M: I hope we won't have to sit through a lot of boring speeches. I mean aren't these students just "brains" anyway. What can they actually do to help a guy like me?
W: No, these people are not "brains" at all. The Alumni are simply a group of normal, but grateful students who hope that, by sharing their experiences with new students, they can help more students to successfully graduate.
M: But still we have any time for some fun at this party?
W: Most of the time will be split between eating, dancing, and singing—so not to worry. However, some of the words of wisdom from the former students should not be missed.
M: You've got a point. They are, after all, success stories if they've managed to survive university life. I hear about only half of all students who start university actually finish it.
W: And besides that, there's another reason to go.
M: What's that?
W: The pie they'll be serving is delicious. I know since I'm the one who will be making it.

听力原文:It is my firm belief that men and women are equal. I cannot accept that some roles are more suitable for males than for females. As far as I am concerned, men and women are equally capable of learning all skills.
In my view, parents should share household tasks and childcare. I think the division of labor should depend on individual circumstances. It seems to me that we can learn most things if we try. It's unwise to suggest that women should take care of most of the practical aspects of childcare because they are more patient, more gentle and more skilled at it. Men can be just as skilled in these areas if they have practice!
Of course, I acknowledge that men are often physically stronger than women and are therefore better at doing certain types of physical work. And I don't deny that one individual may be better at cooking, for example, than the other. But I reject the suggestion that cleaning, washing and ironing are women's work. I strongly believe that we should question all types of sexual stereotyping. If you ask me, there's no such thing as "women's work". There's no reason at all why a man shouldn't do the ironing! My husband does all the ironing in our house — and I do all the electrical repairs!
(33)
A.Some jobs are more suitable for men than for women.
B.Women should take care of the practical aspects of childcare.
C.Cleaning, washing and ironing are women's work.
D.There should not be such things as "women's work".

听力原文: An explosion in a Pennsylvania coal mine killed one worker Monday, but five other miners escaped. The blast went off 2,300 feet underground at the R&D coal mine in Schuylkill County. Some officials say it appears a blast went off in the anthracite mine when workers detonated the explosives, but that’s still under investigation.
The process right now is to continue the interviews and then get back down underground and complete the inspections and in that way we can complete the investigation as to what happened.
The brother-in-law of the miner killed says 43-year-old Dlae Reightler worked at the mine since he was a teenager and that he dreamed of moving his wife and four children, setting up an auto-repair business.
He did it all his life. He did that and worked on cars in his garage backyard. He enjoyed doing that stuff.
At the mine, the accident knocked out the ventilation system, making it too dangerous for investigators to go down into the mine shaft. Regulators ordered the facility closed until the investigation is complete. The area has the nation’s only deposits of anthracite, a type of hard, clean burning coal. A June inspection of the site turned up no violations and violations detected in August were fixed on site.
The investigation was dangerous because ______.
A.the mine was badly damaged
B.the ventilation system was broken
C.the mine was too deep
D.the safety facility was destroyed
