A young man who lived in London was in love with a beautiful girl. Soon she became his fiancée (未婚妻). The man was very poor while the girl was rich. The young man wanted to make her a present on her birthday. He wanted to buy something beautiful for her, but he had no idea how to do it, as he had very little money. The next morning he went to a shop. There were many fine things there: gold watches, diamond… but all these things were too expensive. There was one thing he could not take his eyes off. It was a beautiful vase. That was a suitable present for his fiancée. He had been looking at the vase for half an hour when the manager of the shop noticed him. The young man looked so pale, sad and unhappy that the manager asked what had happened to him.

To his great surprise the young man saw a vase broken into many pieces. The manager said: "When the servant enters the room, he will drop it."
On the birthday of his fiancée the young man was very excited. Everything happened as had been planned. The servant brought in the vase, and as he entered the room, he dropped it. There was horror on everybody's face. When the box was opened, the guests saw that each piece was packed separately.

Once the 12 Girls Band became popular, similar groups predictably starting popping up. Musicat and Beautiful Youth 18 were formed last year. Both feature now-familiar formulas of attractive young women playing different instruments in songs that combine modern music with classic Chinese tunes. Yet they add to the mix by throwing in song, dance and even acrobatics. In an interview, noted music critic Jin Zhaojun said the girl band phenomenon was not new to China, as similar acts appeared in the 1980s.
However, the undying role is that to be successful, bands have to have a novel look. "The 12 Girls Band was the first group to give big live shows and show creativity in how they present their performances. The Beijing Red Poppy Ladies Percussion group, formed in 1999, has made a name for itself because they are the only band that exclusively plays drums and percussion instruments. Bands that don't have ' a thing' are sure to die fast", Jin said.
How many members are involved in the band?
A.8.
B.10.
C.12.
D.14.

听力原文:M: Today, I'm interviewing a young girl named Alex about her feelings on how people can help save the environment. So, Alex, how can we save the environment?
W: By saving water.
M: Well, how can we do that?
W: By not using too much water when we wash dishes, take a bath, and when we do other things, like watering the plants outside.
M: Oh, I think I can do that. What else?
W: When drinking or eating something outside, you should keep the garbage until you find a trashcan to put it in because littering makes our planet dirty. Do you like seeing trash all over the ground?
M: No, I don't. Do you have any final suggestions?
W: Yes. We shouldn't waste paper because trees are being cot down to make the paper. By recycling paper, we save the forests where animals live.
M: So, how can people recycle paper, I mean, everyday?
W: Well, for example, when I was in the office, I used to save the newspapers so that I could collect things made out of them, like paper trees, instead of just throwing them away. Now, the children in our neighborhood collect newspapers once a month to take them to a recycling center.
M: That's great. Well, thanks Alex for your ideas.
